The River Region Ballet's 17th cultural season will begin with their annual production of The Nutcracker. This full length version is a seasonal classic with its large cast, colorful costumes, and timeless music by Tchaikovsky. RRB will once again present a "Sugar Plum Matinee". This is shortened performance of The Nutcracker designed specifically for young children. Included in the ticket price is admission to the "Sugar Plum Party". You won't want to miss this special event.
This year's Spring Concert will feature original pieces by artistic director Susan Ferrara showcasing the diversity of ballet in contemporary works. The Fairy Garden is a ballet inspired by the poetry and water colorings of Cicely Mary Barker whose Flower Fairy books were first published in 1923. This colorful ballet will introduce both young and old to the Flower Fairies and the remarkable young artist who achieved international acclaim at age 15. While some ballets tell a story others simply portray and idea or emotion. Passages is a touching look back to one's own life with the only constant being "time". Yet another face of dance, Tarantella, is lively and fun. It shows the colorful and vibrant influences native dances has had on ballet. RRB will also present a special children's matinee of The Fairy Garden. Similar to the Sugar Plum matinee, this fairy gathering will hold unique surprises for our young dance enthusiasts.
